Come ride one of our highly trained Andalusian Schoolmasters and experience the balance and lightness of these horses while developing your timing and feel for the movements. Whether it’s feeling a balanced trot, learning the various lateral movements, to the High School work such as piaffe, passage, Spanish walk, and levade, riding a school master is a great learning experience for riders of all levels.

Testimonials

As an older adult amateur rider, I’m always looking for ways to accelerate my learning. As a physician and human biomechanics instructor, I love to study balance and movement. On two occasions I’ve had opportunity to take a lesson from Bethany Tuskey at Dover Stables upon her beautiful Andalusian schoolmaster, Ilustre. Among other things, I learned from these experiences how incredibly light a horse can be while still demonstrating keenness to perform, how to keep a horse relaxed yet on the aids, and how when it comes to the aids less really can be more, and when the horse is that responsive things get especially fun! On Ilustre, with Bethany’s coaching, I got to feel a horse practically float in passage—by the way, when the horse is truly engaged from behind the passage is much easier to ride than it looks!— how to ask for and allow the piaffe, how to sit the levade, and how to transition in and out of Spanish walk. These are not just “tricks” as some like to say, but beautiful and important ways to communicate with the horse about it’s balance and energy, key ingredients to sustaining the horse’s health. Ilustre is proof. At 27, Ilustre still performs happily and with ease of movement. Riding Ilustre with Bethany’s guidance doubled my learning and fun, and I look forward to seeing these two again soon.

Jenny Mastrangelo

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Bethany and her family for a few years now, she is an absolute gem as a person and as a trainer, she is highly trained in French classical dressage but her knowledge goes well beyond that in all areas of training, from Liberty, Driving, Trick training…the list goes on and on. She has the unique knack of gearing her training to the rider and/ or horses’ level to ensure success. Her calm kind demeanor makes her a pleasure to learn/work with.
